ZTE Joins Banglalink in 3G Upgrades

Bangladeshi mobile operator Banglalink has enlisted China’s ZTE to upgrade its 3G network in Khulna, reports the Daily Star.

 

 

An initial USD16 million contract sees ZTE join fellow Chinese vendor Huawei in the development of Banglalink’ infrastructure: the VimpelCom-backed operator has thus far used Huawei as its chief rollout partner in its W-CDMA/HSPA+ network expansion since launch in 2013.

 

Under the latest agreement, 15 districts of Khulna as well as Rajbari, Faridpur, Madaripur and Shariatpur will receive upgrades which lay the groundwork for the eventual rollout of 4G services. The work being carried out by ZTE will involve upgrading 1,400 base stations. Earlier, Banglalink upgraded its network to ‘4G-ready’ in other selected parts of the country in partnership with Huawei.
