More Than Half the World is Still Offline
Despite falling prices for ICT services, more than half of the world's population is still not connected to the internet, the latest ITU figures show.
The UN agency estimates that 3.9 billion people remain cut-off from the vast resources available on the internet.
The newly released report ICT Facts & Figures 2016 shows that developing countries now account for the vast majority of internet users with 2.5 billion users compared with one billion in developed countries. Internet penetration rates, however, tell a different story.
Verizon $5bn Yahoo Deal Imminent
Verizon is on the verge of announcing its acquisition of Yahoo in a deal worth US$ billion, various newswires reported.
An unnamed source told Reuters that the announcement will come before the start of trading in New York on Monday.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg, which broke the story, quoted two sources as saying that the deal will come in at just ahead of $4.8 billion.
China Tower Faces Increased Pressure from New Lease Agreement
China's three major operators respectively disclosed the commercial lease pricing on telecom towers & assets of China Tower in early July.
The sharing rate becomes a key to the lease pricing on related assets, which means a 20% - 40% discount for two-side sharing and a 30% - 50% discount for tripartite sharing.
NRI said in the report recently that China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom can save CNY 2.4 billion, CNY 1.9 billion and CNY 1.8 billion leasing cost respectively, equivalent to an increase of 1%, 2% and 2% of EBITDA for them.
The main difference from the original provision, according to NRI, is increased discount rate with joint tenancy and that China Tower is solely responsible for the financing costs which are not included in the rental cost. This implies a decrease in tower rent and larger operation pressure for China Tower because the company can only rely on itself to finance. To be listed in 2017, China Tower needs to further raise the operational efficiency.

Huawei Claims 40% 1H Revenue Hike
Huawei on Monday announced significant revenue growth in the first half of the year and talked up the progress it has made across its business.
The Chinese equipment maker said sales revenue for the first six months of 2016 reached 245.5 billion yuan (€33.5 billion). That represents growth of 40% year-on-year, it said, without providing comparative figures. However, Huawei did state that its numbers have been reviewed by its auditor.

Recently, FiberHome released its financial report in the first half of 2016. The report points out that during the report period, the Company has achieved an operating revenue of 7714.01 million yuan, up by 26.06% year-on-year. The net profit is about 3870 million, up by 16.28%.
