Broadband Development Alliance released Report on Broadband Penetration Rate in China on August 12, which shows that the penetration rate of household fixed broadband in China reaches 56.6%, and that of mobile broadband (mainly referring to 3G & 4G) 63.8%, by the end of 2Q16.
Compared with half a year ago, the penetration rates of fixed broadband and mobile broadband have respectively increased by 16.6% & 6.8%, which tells large improvements.
From the perspective of region, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Beijing, Zhejiang & Shanghai are the top five in the fixed broadband penetration rate ranking while Beijing (129.9%), Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guangdong & Ningxia dominate the top five in the mobile broadband penetration rate ranking.
5G Connections to Reach 690m by 2025: Strategy Analytics
Research company also sees 5G handset shipments starting in 2020 and rising to 300 million by 2025.
5G connections are set to reach 690 million by 2025, with 5G handset shipments also expected to rise to 300 million by this point according to latest predictions from Strategy Analytics.
The research company explained that the 690-million figure relates to what it calls "user-linked subscriptions" and does not include industrial machine-to-machine connections.
“So we are including connections for which there is an individual user end-point (either B2C or B2B), such as for consumer electronics products, but does not include vertical/industrial applications,” explained Phil Kendall, executive director at Strategy Analytics.
China Telecom Faces Pressure from China Mobile in Fixed Broadband Market
China Telecom released the earning results in 1H16 on August 23.
Yang Jie, chairman and CEO of China Telecom, said at the results briefing that China Mobile had put pressure on China Telecom in the fixed broadband market.
However, China Telecom has gained 88 million FTTH users totally with initiatives including increasing the broadband speed.
China Telecom also provides its subscribers with content services for the value-added services are helpful in attracting subscribers and maintaining user stickiness.
