Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Qualcomm, Intel and German Carmakers Form 5G Telecom Association
German car makers Audi, BMW and Daimler on Tuesday launched an alliance with mobile telecoms network equipment firms Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia and Qualcomm to accelerate development of the infrastructure needed for self-driving cars.
The pact is another example of Germany's premium carmakers collaborating to build technology expertise necessary to take on new rivals like Uber and Google which are also working on autonomous driving technology.
Wi-Fi Alliance approves LTE-U Coexistence Test Plan
The Wi-Fi Alliance has presented a Coexistence Test Plan to help develop LTE-U services in spectrum bands used for Wi-Fi.
The test plan was developed over several months by dozens of companies from both the Wi-Fi and LTE-U communities and will be used to test whether LTE-U devices can share unlicensed spectrum without disrupting Wi-Fi services. The plan includes a comprehensive set of test scenarios agreed upon by the industry as adequate to determine proper sharing, and the Wi-Fi Alliance encouraged all LTE-U vendors and operators to use the test plan.
The Indian telecom scenario is undergoing major transformations currently, having witnessed increasing growth in the past 15 years.
Voice and data services on 2G network were the lifeline of millions of Indians since the middle of 1990. Today, Anil Ambani, CMD of Reliance Communications, said the company added more than 1 million paid 4G subscribers in 90 days. These one million 4G users are using more than 1 GB data. This indicates that both 3G and 4G will eclipse 2G networks across the country.
