New Delhi: To commemorate the 25th year of the ASEAN India relations, TEPC (Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council) organized an inter-ministerial meeting between telecom ministers of ASEAN countries and India in New Delhi today.
Minister of Communication, Government of India, Manoj Sinha lead the discussions from Indian side with telecom ministers, senior government officials and industry leaders from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos PDR, Indonesia and Bhutan.Indian Government has expressed keen interest to partner with ASEAN countries in enabling Digital Connectivity between India and ASEAN region and also for enabling broadband within ASEAN countries.
Facebook Plans to Lay almost 500 Miles of Fiber Cable in Africa for Better Wireless Internet
Facebook has a new plan to get more of Africa online: Fiber optic cables.The social giant on Monday announced plans to lay nearly 500 miles of fiber cable in Uganda by the end of the year, infrastructure that Facebook believes will provide internet access for more than three million people.
Facebook is not, however, providing its own wireless network. The company is partnering with Airtel and BCS to provide the actual internet service, and says the fiber will offer more support for "mobile operators' base stations." The company also says that it's "open" to working with other network providers down the line.All three organizations are making some kind of financial commitment to the project, according to a person familiar with the deal, though it's unclear who is paying for what.
67 Foreign Enterprises Won Telecommunication Service Operation Licenses in China
CATR (China Academy of Telecommunication Research) released the Report on Foreign Enterprises Investing and Operating Telecommunication Services on February 23, which suggests that 67 foreign investing telecom enterprises have gained licenses to operate telecom services by the end of December 2016, consisting of 46 counterparts allowed by MIIT and 21 counterparts from Shanghai Free-Trade Zone admitted by Shanghai Communications Administration.
