Claro Brazil Launches First 4.5G Network in Brasilia in Partnership with Huawei
Recently, Claro Brazil launched the commercial 4.5G (4x4 MIMO+ Massive CA+256QAM) network in Brasilia in partnership with Huawei. The 4.5G network is the first network intended for commercial use in Brazil, and is expected to be the largest in the Latin America Region.
Claro demonstrated the impressive 4.5G data rates achievable at the release ceremony. After accessing the network, smartphones could experience an average rate of 250 Mbps — 10 times the average rate measured on the 4G network.
In the near future, as smartphones supporting both 4x4 MIMO and 256QAM reach the market, users will be able to benefit from the enhanced capabilities of the 4.5G network. On the network side, everything is ready to speed up mobile internet access in Brazil´s federal capital, bringing fiber speeds to the mobile environment.

Vodafone launches 700 Mbps 4.5G service in Madrid, Salamanca
Vodafone Spain has launched a commercial service offering download speeds of up to 700 Mbps and upload speeds of 150Mbps using 4.5G technology in central parts of Madrid and Salamanca. The service can be accessed with Samsung’s latest S8 and S8+ smartphones and Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium and will be rolled out in central areas of Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, Seville, Bilbao, Zaragoza and La Coruna over the coming months. Vodafone said its new 4.5G network uses a combination of advanced transmission techniques including carrier aggregation across at least three frequency bands (800/1800/2100 or 2600MHz), 256QAM and the Massive MIMO technology first trialled at MWC in February to achieve faster speeds. The upgrade has resulted in 5X capacity improvements per 4G antenna in the centre of Madrid, said the company.

SK demos 3.5GHz 5G trial networks with Samsung, Nokia
South Korean operator SK Telecom, in partnership with Samsung Electronics and Nokia, has demonstrated 5G communications using the 3.5GHz band. SK Telecom partnered with Samsung Electronics to develop a 3.5GHz 5G network, comprised of 5G virtualized core, virtualized RAN, Distributed Unit (baseband unit and radio unit) and test device, based on the 3GPP 5G New Radio (5G NR) standards elements established to date.
The two companies’ 5G NR system is built with a subcarrier spacing of 60 kHz, Transmit Time Interval (TTI) length of 0.25ms, and Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) channel coding for data communications. The two companies completed the 5G network trial using the 3.5GHz spectrum at Samsung Electronics’ R&D Center located in Suwon, Korea.

Story Behind FiberHome's 560 Tbit/s Optical Transmission System "In 2014, the transmission capacity of a single optical fiber exceeded 100 Tbps by FiberHome, and after that, FiberHome started to develop the multiplexing technology which can provide higher transmission capacity. Due to the Shannon limit, the maximum transmission capacity of traditional single-mode fibers cannot exceed 100 Tbps, while the space division multiplexing technology is only developed by a few manufacturers from Japan and the U.S. FiberHome faced the challenge of how to develop a new type of fiber with independent intellectual property.
