GSMA to showcase mobile IoT progress at MWC Shanghai
The GSMA has announced that the progress of mobile IoT technologies will be showcased via several demonstrations at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai event from 27 June to 01 July. China Telecom will demonstrate how its environmental monitoring service is helping to keep air quality high and water supplies pure with big data analysis as well as emergency response services. The GSMA will also showcase how mobile IoT networks are helping the St Andrew’s University Sea Mammal Research Unit to monitor harbour seals and preserve life underwater. Other demos will include a connected bike, which utilises an NB-IoT network to improve the operation of bike hire schemes, as well as a connected smart waste bin for improved refuse collection from China Unicom. more>>
Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 450 mid-range 14nm chip
Qualcomm has taken advantage of its appearance at MWC Shanghai to announce the Snapdragon 450, the successor to the 435 and the first in its tier to use the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. Catering to mid-range smartphones and tablets, the Snapdragon 450 is designed to deliver significant improvements in battery life, graphics and compute performance, imaging and LTE connectivity. The improved 14nm process has enabled Qualcomm to increase the maximum clock speed of the octa-core SCO from 1.4GHz to 1.8GHz, while the GPU offers 25 percent better performance than its predecessor, said the company. more>>

Nokia shows how 4.9G technology will reduce network latency on the path to 5G at #MWCS17
Shanghai, China - Nokia is to demonstrate the role high-performance 4G technology will play on the path to 5G to ensure continuity-of-service when 5G technology is deployed. At Mobile World Congress Shanghai, Nokia will show its AirScale base station working with 4.9G technology to reduce network latency to less than two milliseconds, bringing performance closer to the latency levels 5G is expected to deliver.
