Oracle has named the inaugural class of startup participants for the six-month Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator program in Singapore.
Selected from hundreds of applicants, the six startups in Singapore’s initial class are Arya.ai, FlexM, FOMO Pay, Hacker Trail, RL Club and Unscrambl. These startups work on technology solutions across industries such as retail, recruitment, and finance.
The startups will have access to technical and business mentoring by Oracle and industry experts, state-of-the-art technology with free Oracle Cloud credits, full access to a co-working space within Oracle’s premises, as well as access to Oracle’s global ecosystem of startup peers, customers, investors and partners.
The Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator Program is an initiative driven by Oracle R&D. The program focuses on encouraging innovation in the enterprise through collaborations with startups that foster co-development and co-innovation.

Google to Launch Cloud Region in HK
Google has announced plans to open a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) region in Hong Kong in 2018 as part of its ongoing Asia-Pacific expansion.
The new GCP Hong Kong region will be the sixth in Asia-Pacific, joining facilities in Taiwan and Tokyo as well as the recently launched Mumbai, Sydney, and Singapore regions.
The initiative also forms part of Google's commitment to boosting Hong Kong's digital economy and smart city efforts. Recent research [pdf] from the company found that Hong Kong remains at the early stages of digital transformation despite its high internet connected population (81%).
In addition while 95% of Hong Kong companies see digital transformation as critical, companies at best only gradually embrace the latest digital technology.

DBS Launches Private Cloud DC in Singapore
DBS Bank has teamed up with Equinix to convert one of its traditional data centers in Singapore into a cloud-optimized facility.
This new initiative will enable the bank to move its main data center to significantly smaller premises, which are a quarter of the size of its existing data center. The new center is expected to be 75% cheaper to run.
The bank has been working on migrating to cloud-optimized technology in recent years, resulting in efficiency saves while increasing storage and computing capacity by sevenfold since 2014.
With growing business volumes and digitalization, compute workloads at the bank have doubled in the last three years and are expected to see continued significant growth.

STT Connect, Armor to Offer Secure Cloud Services
Singapore-based private cloud provider ST Telemedia Connect (STT Connect) and US-headquartered Armor have announced a partnership to offer end-to-end secure cloud solutions in Asia-Pacific.
The collaboration marries STT Connect’s private cloud infrastructure with Armor’s managed security tools. The two companies will deliver a fully integrated and managed security service with end-to-end protection and 24/7/365 security operations center (SOC) for cloud workloads and hybrid IT environments.
