LPWAN Connections to Grow at a 46% CAGR through to 2025
Global LPWAN IoT connections are on track to grow at a hefty 46% CAGR through to 2025, research firm IDTechEx has predicted.
Much of the growth is expedited to come from China, which has set a target of having 600 million NB-IoT connections in 2020, IDTechEx noted in a new report.
The driving force for LPWAN connections are smart city applications, with initial projects concentrated on areas including utility monitoring, street lighting, car parking and pollution and people monitoring.more>>
APAC Outbound LTE Roaming Ttraffic Grew 317% Last Year
LTE roaming traffic between Asia-Pacific and other regions grew 317% in the past year, according to Syniverse.
The mobile technology and business services provider noted that inter-regional 4G roaming traffic (54%) has surpassed non-LTE data roaming traffic this year for the first time.
LTE meanwhile accounted for 26% of roaming traffic out of Asia-Pacific in 2017, and this has increased to 43% this year.
But with older technologies such as 3G still accounting for the majority of traffic, mobile operators will need to urgently focus on enhanced network capability before making the jump to 5G, according to Syniverse SVP and general manager John Wick.more>>
Higher Investments Drive India Networking Market in Q1
Increased networking investments across the enterprise and service provider segments led to a strong 10.8% year-on-year increase in India’s networking market during the first quarter, according to IDC India.
Dileep Nadimpalli, Research Manager, IDC India says, “With the advent of software defined networking (SDN) and SD-WAN technologies the landscape of networking architecture is quickly changing. OEMs should address the developing business and deployment models, since the market will adopt subscription-led networking procurement over traditional networking hardware spend.”
The IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly Ethernet Switch Tracker estimates Q1 2018 Ethernet switch market in India stood at $139 million with a YoY growth of 9.8%. The key growth driver is Layer 3 category while Layer 2 and Application Delivery Controller (ADC) category saw a marginal YoY decline in Q1 2018.more>>

Huawei Revenue Grows 15% in 1H18
Huawei has reported a 15% year-on-year increase in revenue for the first six months of 2018 – a strong performance, but not in comparison to the company's recent historical growth trends.
The Chinese vendor's unaudited half year results show that the company had an operating margin for the period of 14%, up from 11% a year earlier.
IoT Device Management Revenues to Top $20.5b by 2023
Device management services for IoT are expected to generate revenues of $20.5 billion by 2023, according to new report released by ABI Research.
ABI Research’s latest report, Device Management Services for the Edge-Centric IoT, forecasts that IoT device management services – which include device provisioning, software and firmware updates, and device monitoring – will be a necessary component of any significant IoT solution moving forward, with 70% of revenues being generated within the industrial, automotive, and telematics verticals.
Ericsson Recovering but still Posts Q1 Loss
Ericsson has reported its sixth straight quarterly net loss for the first quarter, but the vendor significantly improved its performance year-on-year.
Ericsson posted a net loss of around 700 million kronor ($82.7 million), but this compared to a loss of 10 billion kronor in the first quarter of 2017.
HKBN Profit Surges 423.4% in 1H18
Hong Kong's HKBN has reported a strong 423.4% increase in net profit for the six months ending in February to HK$241 million ($30.7 million), partly as a result of strong residential and enterprise growth.
Adjusted for amortisation and non-recurring finance costs, profit grew 70% year-on-year to HK$295.4 million, the operator said.
