ACMA 5G Telstra Spectrum auction Four operators have collectively paid around A$853 million ($616.02 million) for 3.6-GHz 5G spectrum in Australia's latest spectrum auction.
All 350 lots of 3.5-GHz spectrum were sold. The market's largest operator Telstra has secured the highest number of lots at 143, with total bids of $386.01 million. Rival operator Optus meanwhile will pay $185.07 million for 47 lots of 3.6-GHz spectrum, while a joint venture established between Vodafone Australia and fixed line focused TPG Telecom won 131 lots for $263.28 million. more>>
Thailand to auction 2.6-GHz spectrum in 2H19
Thai telecoms regulator NBTC has revealed plans to hold a 2600-MHz spectrum auction in the second half of 2019 as part of efforts to facilitate the launch of 5G by 2020.
The regulator has appointed a subcommittee to work on recalling unused spectrum for its reallocation for 5G, the Bangkok Post reported.
The first priority will be to recall some spectrum in the 2600-MHz range for next year's auction. The spectrum is currently held by state-owned public broadcaster MCOT under a concession agreement that ends in 2022.
A second subcommittee will be set up to negotiate compensation for returning the spectrum, the report states. more>>
China allocates spectrum for nationwide 5G trials
China's Ministry of Industry and Information technology has issued nationwide 5G trial licenses to the market's big three mobile operators.
China Unicom has announced it has been approved to use the 3.5-GHz to 3.6-GHz frequency range for a nationwide 5G trial rollout until June 2020.
Under the arrangement, the operator will gradually cease to use the frequency in the 2555-MHz to 2575-MHz range that it had been using for 5G trials and progressively return it to the ministry.
China Telecom has meanwhile been approved to use the 3.4-GHz to 3.5-GHz frequency range for its own trails, and will return its 2635-MHz to 2655-MHz spectrum over the same timeframe. more>>

Nokia, Qualcomm complete 5G NR interoperability tests
Nokia and Qualcomm have announced the trial of over the air 5G new radio data calls in both the mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum bands.
The successful interoperability tests were completed at Nokia's 5G center of excellence in Oulu, Finland using commercially available Nokia base stations and a test device powered by Qualcomm's 5G modem and antenna modules.
CMRI, Nokia launch 5G hybrid indoor radio solution
The China Mobile Research Institute and Nokia have launched a jointly-developed hybrid indoor radio solution with location services, designed to meet 5G connectivity demands inside large, busy buildings.
The solution, which the companies are hailing as an industry-first, is aimed at reducing operators' deployment costs.
Vodafone Germany demos 3D holographic streaming over 5G
Ericsson and Vodafone Germany have completed a demonstration of 3D holographic communication over 5G using Ericsson's 5G radio and Cloud Core solutions.
The demonstration used Vodafone's 5G 3.5-GHz trial spectrum, and involved projecting a hologram of Vodafone Germany's CEO Hannes Ametsreiter in a moving, electric minibus. The CEO was at the company's Düsseldorf lab around 70km away from the bus.
SKT, Ericsson, Qualcomm complete 5G data call
SK Telecom, Ericsson and Qualcomm have completed another milestone demonstration of a 5G new radio data call on SK Telecom's live 5G network in Busan.
The trial using mid-band spectrum involved a data call transmitted over 100 MHz of bandwidth on 3.5-GHz spectrum, and was the first field test using broader bandwidth on 3.4-GHz.
