In its nastiest form, COVID-19 obstructs the airways and causes breathing problems for the infected. It could also lead to a blockage for the companies that make network equipment.
Despite a surge in network traffic, and a global recognition of broadband's overnight importance, service providers have begun warning investors of the pandemic's financial impact. As capital expenditure is cut, 5G looks especially vulnerable. And Europe and the US are in much worse shape than China.

After a flying start, Samsung struggles to gain ground in 5G With an inside run in early 5G and a market gap as the US squeezed Huawei, 2019 looked like a breakthrough year for Samsung Networks.
That was certainly the view of Kim Young-ki, the head of Samsung Electronics' network business unit, who declared last May he expected to achieve 20% share of the 5G equipment by 2020.
Huawei picks up five-market 5G deal from Ooredoo Ooredoo cocked a snook at legislators worldwide by deciding to source 5G technology from Huawei in both radio access and core networks in five of its ten markets – Kuwait, Oman, Indonesia, Tunisia and the Maldives – during the coming five years.
It's fair to say that governments in a number of markets, led by the Trump administration, have been extremely vocal in their opposition to China-based telecoms vendors, particularly Huawei, with the latest reports suggesting the US government even plans to provide up $1 billion to rural US wireless network operators so they can rip out their Huawei equipment.

Hengtong Releases Two New Ultra-small Optical Fiber Products for High-density Optical Cable Application Hengtong has launched two novel 180 micron SMF, BoneCom®Smini-G.652.D series used for MAN and trunk transmission network and BendCom®Smini-G.657.A2 series with excellent bending performance. Compared with the traditional 245 micron fiber and 200 micron small diameter fiber, the novel fiber has a smaller size of 180 microns, a reduction of around 30% and 10% respectively. The fiber has less cost, better attenuation and more stable cabling process when applied to ultra-small air blowing micro cable and ultra-dense optical cable.
